What to Pack for a Cruise

This is a common question so thought I'd share my packing list, I've tried to sort by main headings.I've started with the 'mission critical' stuff your travel documents, cash and passport etc, it doesn't matter if you forget your toothbrush if you forget your passport. 

Travel Documents, Funds And Papers
  • Tickets to board the ship and if applicable Airline Tickets.
  • Passports, and any other documents to enter countries being visited, e.g. Visas
  • Cruise documents
  • Cruise itinerary
  • Proof of purchase for any shore trips
  • Details of Travel insurance with phone numbers
  • If needed Drivers Licences, it's a good idea to take these just in case.
  • Details of any medical prescriptions
  • Credit cards it might be an idea call credit card companies in advance of your cruise. When using cards abroad the cards can get flagged as potential fraudulent use.
  • Currency as well as any Travellers cheques 
  • If needed a language phrase book.
  • Phone numbers in the case of an emergancy

Medicines and Sundries

  • Prescription drugs or other important medication (in carry-on bag)
  • Bonine/dramamine
  • Antibiotic cream
  • Anti-itch cream
  • Anti-diarrhoea medication
  • Band-aids
  • Tylenol, Advil, Aleve and/or aspirin
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunblock for lips
  • Moisturiser
  • Anti-bacterial hand cleaner
  • Insect repellant (very important)
  • Stain remover stick and Woolite
  • Ear plugs
  • Vaseline or lip moisturizer
  • Make-up, make-up mirror and make-up bag

Women's Cruise Clothing, based on Two Formal Nights

  • 4-6 shirts - bring both t-shirts and long sleeved shirts
  • Jeans or khakis
  • 1-2 pairs of shorts (Alaska can be hot sometimes)

  • Bathing suits
  • Cover-up
  • Dresses for informal nights
  • 2 cocktail/formal dresses
